We’re up to something very exciting...
– and are glad to announce our new collaboration with renowned designer Rikke Frost.
In close partnership with PBJ Designhouse, she has been working on a new furniture collection called Aro.
Rikke Frost is trained as an industrial designer MAA at the School of Architecture in Aarhus. She established her own design studio in Aarhus in 2004. She runs her studio based on 3 dogmas:
Minimal – Magical – Mindful
She strives to work with functional, long-lasting designs with minimal environmental impact and she always has the human being in focus.
The vision is to think about minimizing in all aspects of the design process, such as utilizing materials in the best possible way, to think about the resources, manufacturing methods and work efficiently.
Rikke Frost reflects on humans, our behavior, materials and the environment.
Rikke Frost has shared her thoughts on the Aro series:
“The Aro series was created with the ambition to unite function and form in a harmonious and inviting expression, where each element in the series engages in a natural and honest dialogue with each other. The circular detail, which is repeated in both the legs and the base of tables and storage furniture, visually binds the series together and adds a character-defining feature that emphasizes the rounded and soft design.
In the rectangular tables, I have worked to make the extension function an integrated and aesthetic part of the design. The extension part is not hidden but rather highlighted as a beautiful and natural component of the table’s geometry. This creates an elegant visibility around the function – an honest gesture that underscores the furniture’s flexibility without compromising the visual expression.
The storage furniture is created with a focus on both functionality and tactility. The sliding doors glide effortlessly to the side with the help of a round stick handle in solid wood – a handle that is not only practical but also provides a subtle, tactile grip that you want to touch. The top plate is beautifully framed by the sides of the furniture, which both protects and frames the items you choose to place there. The frame also allows for material contrasts and color choices that can be adapted to the room and atmosphere.
The Aro chair is designed for movement and presence. Its characteristic circular backrest allows you to turn naturally in the chair while still being well supported. The backrest invites movement and flexibility – and the chair is easy to move around, both because of its low weight and the way you intuitively grab it by the backrest. It is a chair that you both sense and use with your body.”
